Types of Christmas Tree

Trees are supplied as either:

Cut Trees

A cut tree has no roots, and is designed to be placed in water, like a flower.

Potted Trees

A potted tree, is a tree, which has been taken from a field, and placed in a pot. The loss of long roots during the potting process means that the tree is not expected to grow. (A tree’s roots are usually about twice the height of the tree, hence it is difficult to get the roots in the pot.) A potted tree is just for Xmas.

Pot Grown Trees

A pot grown tree, will have been grown in the pot, and is designed to keep growing.

We recommend a pot grown tree be immediately planted outdoors. Please water it well when re-planting, and in the Summer, so that you can enjoy it for many years. If you do not want the tree to grow too tall, put it in a pot, which will help restrict the growth.

There can be a temptation to temporarily place a pot grown tree in a home for Xmas, but unfortunately that will dry out the tree, and may well lead to it not surviving Xmas. Therefore, if you want to put a pot grown tree indoors, we recommend it only be for a very short period, the cooler the room the better, and please keep it watered.

The main types of Christmas Trees we sell are:

Norwegian Spruce

The traditional Xmas tree. It has a strong fragrance, but many needles will fall in a warm room.

Nordmann Fir

The most popular needle retaining Xmas tree. Normally a BROAD tree with large soft needles.

Fraser Fir

Fraser Firs are the best performing Xmas trees for:

a) Retaining needles; &
b) Keeping their shape and colour.

Fraser Fir is usually a SLIM tree with MANY branches, and it can have a nice FRAGRANCE.
